The Devil Probably (1977)
Chicago Film Society Screening The Chicago Film Society will be screening a 35mm print of Robert Bresson's THE DEVIL PROBABLY (1977). Bresson's penultimate film, made when he was about to enter his ninth decade, is a crushingly empathetic reportage on the punks of post-'68 Paris, camping out in churches, riding buses, trading lovers, and fomenting anarchy wherever possible. No less than Richard Hell described it as the most punk film ever made. It will be accompanied by a short film, "What's the Matter with Honesty?", a contemporaneous educational short in 16mm that locates America's post-Watergate aversion to civic life as a symptom of rampant shoplifting and juvenile delinquency. Admission | $7, or $3 for NEIU students and staff. Tickets available at the door. |

Reclaim: Indigenizing Colonized Spaces
Gallery Show at American Indian Center Reclaim is a celebration of the power and magnificence of Indigenous women across the United States. Adam Sings In The Timber, Apsáalooke photojournalist, has been taking photos for decades as a documentarian of Indigenous culture and lifeways. In his travels and photographic adventures Sings In The Timber was overcome by the formidable presence of Indigenous women, and the way this presence has the power to transform the energy of space and place. Adam explains, “My project doesn’t seek to expel non-Native people from our ancestral homelands but to inspire pride in my Indigenous brothers and sisters while also communicating to non-Native populations that Indigenous people are still here, and that we are powerful and sacred.” The American Indian Center Gallery is dedicated to meeting the needs of community by providing a vehicle for artistic expression by taking a leadership role in the cultivation, exhibition and dissemination of historical and contemporary Native histories in Chicago. $ | Free |

Opening: Thadeus Kellstadt at Free Range Gallery
Thad Kellstadt is a multi-disciplinary artist working in painting, sculpture, video, and sound. His work is informed by a diversity of sources ranging from architecture and psychedelia to punk rock and Pennsylvania Dutch barn art. He uses both formal restrictions and chance operations to create imaginary spaces that play with ideas of perception. From the artist: “The structures I paint on are made primarily out of discarded wood. The building where my studio is also houses carpenters, who generously give me their scraps. I pick through this discarded wood, to pull out the interesting shapes and forms." $ | Free |

Albany Park Theater Project
Special Screening at Vintage Grindhouse The acclaimed, local teen theater ensemble Albany Park Theater Project presents a special screening of their 2012-2013 production Home/Land, for Mosaic Albany Park Arts Festival. From APTP: "A brother sings his sister to sleep with the tale of a glorious tree whose roots grow on both sides of a border. A pair of young lovers dance on their wedding night, then wade across the Río Grande hand-in-hand as their honeymoon. A precocious seven year-old in Jordan becomes an unconventional entrepreneur to pay for her family’s immigration. A boat hurls two dozen immigrants across the Gulf of Mexico. A warrior priest turns a bar into a sanctuary for new immigrants. A father and son rehearse new identities for a new life. So begin the epic quests of Home/Land. With its characteristic humanity and creativity, the award-winning Albany Park Theater Project brings to theatrical life a collection of real-life stories of desire, risk, resilience, heroism, love, and hope – as immigrant families strive to stay together and make a better life in the land they’ve come to call home." From the Chicago Tribune: “Home/Land is passionate and well-argued piece of political theater about immigration – or, more specifically, a howl of collective anguish….The immorality of prison-like immigration detention centers, filled with those who wanted only to feed their children or feel free, is revealed with particular force.” The screening will take place in the screening room at Vintage Grindhouse, an eclectic vintage and signature designer furniture gallery featuring one of a kind timeless treasures in furniture and collectibles and a screening room. Special tasting before the event from a surprise guest! LIMITED SEATING AVAILABLE! RSVP Here. $ | Free |
